Notes for Assignment Three The (In)Decisive Moment.

Ideas for (In)Decisive Moment

  • Think about the strategy – subject matter – topic, such as weather conditions
  • The process
  • Perhaps think about emphatic approach
  • Maybe subtle in approach?
  • Think about how we experience the subconscious
  • What surrounds me?
  • Look but feel!
  • Ideas about subject matters that perhaps affect and the effects
  • Have an idea but will it develop naturally…
An idea…Natural we need to have a healthy life and understanding of what our bodies need. Taken from the earth… Image taken from Facebook on an Isle of Wight Post.

The image above was an interesting idea to me personally and an illustration of the (in)decisive action that we take when we eat. The next imagery is taken from a friends book I was browsing through at her home. My friend is from Finland and I have always been fascinated with the Northern Lights but have never had the pleasure of experiencing them… these ideas are my initial inspiration for this assignment. I included other images I found from google search, these can be seen below.

How I will put the assignment together is yet to be decided… I’m somewhat indecisive about. I do know that I will be taking test shots outdoors though and perhaps distorted images for the desired outcome. Play with colour… I will experiment firstly until this develops. Then once I am clearer I can decide whether the images will conclude if the assignment will be (indecisive) or a decisive action.

Norway, Northern Lights.
Aurora Borealis, Norway. Frank Olsen.
Northern Lights, Finland

My outside experimentation shots would be of the sky and then add the colours In photoshop that I’d shot using motion technique with the camera for the visual narrative (see below). However, the Northern lights could be both (in)decisive so I am starting to understand that this is not liking my chosen subject matter for assignment three.

An example of a concept developing

I have developed the idea in my mind of shooting outdoors and around the natural elements which have natural motion. The natural colours are not created by man which is another reason why I have decided to use the the concept time which of course the northern lights would be of a moment in time, which I wouldn’t be able to necessarily capture. I could do so on photoshop however, I don’t wish this assignment to be artificially enhanced. The ‘decisive’ moment of Northern Lights can become an ‘indecisive’ moment as time is everything, everything is run by time, like the film ‘Lucy’ confirms this, played by Scarlett Johansson. The film is about the evolution of time. And so after considerable thought, I have decided on evolution of time being the only true ‘decisive’ moment.

Time is the only true unit of measure it gives proof to the existence of matter. Without time, we don’t exist

Lucy

In order to produce the images to reflect the indecisive evolution shots I researched the progression of evolution on earth. The history of life is a scientific theory which outlines the development of life. Evolution is the inevitably an indecisive development- the diversity is what I wish to show in my images. Introducing the species of man as my last image. I want to demonstrate in the images of life before the present day. Extinct and the now. Living organisms become extinct as our environment is ever changing. And genetic mutation leads to new species from the old one.
The timeline is;

1, Hadean Eon.

2, Archean Eon.

3, Proterozoic Eon.

4, Phanerozoic Eon.

5, Palaeozoi Era.

6, Mesozoic Era.

7, Cenozoic Era-present.

My plan is to take shots to cover the course of evolution and I am going to Compton Bay, Isle of Wight in order to do this. This is where dinosaur footprints can be seen on the sand today. And often fossils are discovered. I hope to capture the beautiful colour formations in the cliff faces.
